Everything was PERFECT. The schnitzel was tender, carrots soft and flavorful, and rahmsauce sauce a perfect weight to complement the entree. As a bonus, I loved the Spezi drink and apple strudel. The staff is professional and helpful. Atmosphere is unique. I’ve never been to a German restaurant. I’d love to come back when I’m traveling in the area again.
I’ve been to Bavaria during Oktoberfest, and this restaurant’s food was not only 1) authentic but 2)even better than the food we had there! Not to mention the atmosphere truly transports you to Munich! You MUST call ahead to order the pork shank (24 hours notice) Every part of the meal was a flavor experience, from the house baked rolls and homemade seasoned whipped butter, to the melt apart in your mouth pork shank, and slightly sweet and warm apple strudel. Portions were generous and very reasonably priced. We will 100% be back, that’s for sure!
After enjoying the delicious food in Germany on a recent vacation, our family was craving it. Someone told us about “Stubes”so we drove over for lunch. The Lederhosen-clad servers are attentive and the atmosphere is simple but charming. They brought us a basket of German rye bread and whipped butter, then our appetizer and meals quickly appeared. We ordered the Wurst platter for a shareable appetizer, served with three delicious types of mustard and a variety of wursts/sausages. My husband enjoyed a bowl of their creamy potato soup, which was unique but delicious, with finely chopped vegetables. Our main courses (lunch portions) consisted of a variety of schnitzel, spaetzle, and vegetables. The wine sauce that accompanied the dish was out of this world. My dish was also schnitzel, but covered in melted Camembert, served with perfect sauerkraut and spaetzle. We were too full for dessert, but they had some choices that we will definitely try next time. Highly recommend!
We expected a good meal based on reviews and personal recommendations. It was even better than we could have hoped. Deliciously prepared German favorites served in a comfy homestyle setting by attentive servers. We shared the combo platter which allowed us to enjoy schnitzel on potato salad, beef filet on spaetzle, bratwurst with two fine mustards, along with red cabbage and sauerkraut. The bread and its cream cheese and whipped butter spreads were divine. Everything was housemade. Everything was delicious. Portions are generous. I saw gorgeous desserts going by but there just was no room to indulge. Next trip. I’d come to Hagerstown just to eat here!

Good German food with a nice vibe! I stopped in here during a road trip and this was the perfect food as they pick me up to take me the rest of my journey! Didn’t expect to find good German food on my trip, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Came here while we were driving down to our vacation spot, and we were absolutely satisfied. The servers were very pleasant and nice, and the food was delicious. Definitely made with lots of love and care! My mom was obsessed with the Spaetzle (egg noodles), I enjoyed the brown sauce that came with my Schnitzel, and my dad thought the sauerkraut with his food was "exceptional" as he said. Very good dinner spot!
I met my son in Hagerstown and he wanted to eat someplace different. A quick Google search yielded authentic German cuisine and so we agreed to try Schmankerl Stube. The building is located in downtown Hagerstown and is an older building. It adds to the character. I ordered the Krautwickerl (cabbage rolls) and my son ordered the Ulmer Metzgerplatte (bratwurst). The cabbage rolls with spaetzle was wonderful. The cabbage rolls were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. The spaetzle had great texture and the egg in the recipe was really forward. My son found the bratwurst very tasty. The sauerkraut was a little sweet for his liking, but he said it was good. The German potato salad was served warm and he struggled with that. It wasn't hot, but it wasn't cold. As a matter of preference, he did not care for that, but he said the flavor was good. If you are looking for authentic German, you might give Schmarkerl Sube a try!
What a gem! I will definitely make this a regular stop when I’m in the area. Everything on the menu sounds delicious. All of the entrées served to our group were amazing. Our appetizers were great. We had the sausages and escargot. The dessert is all delicious. A true piece of Germany in Hagerstown.
We enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience for lunch. Very authentic cuisine and the servers dressed the part! Very charming, friendly, cozy place to chat or just enjoy good German food and especially dessert! Yummy desserts! About 10 scrumptious options. Highly recommend.
